What Our Students Say

Hear directly from learners who used Learn Trade Skills to progress their electrical training route.

*****Marcus K.
MK
5.0 RatingFire Alarm & Emergency Lighting (EAL Level 3 Triple Award)

Did this for our firm's BAFE SP203 registration - five days, three EAL Awards, no faffing about with separate centres or schedules. Passed all three exams first time and our SP203 firm registration was approved within 6 weeks.

*****Beth O.
BO
5.0 RatingFire Alarm & Emergency Lighting (EAL Level 3 Triple Award)

Comprehensive but practical. The cross-module insights - especially how BS 5839-1 categories interact with BS 5266-1 emergency lighting design in commercial buildings - made the difference on a complex hotel commission a fortnight later.

*****Michael R.
MR
5.0 RatingDomestic Installer Package

Left the office, joined the trade. Seven weeks in Cheshunt, first paid job the following Monday.

What is the Fire & Emergency Lighting Triple Award?+

The Triple Award bundles all three EAL Level 3 Awards needed for BAFE-registered commercial fire & life-safety installation work into a single 5-day programme: BAFE DS301 (BS 5839-6 domestic fire alarms), BAFE SP203-1 (BS 5839-1 commercial fire alarms), and BAFE SP203-4 (BS 5266-1 / BS EN 1838 / BS EN 50172 emergency lighting). Each Award is delivered with EAL exam at the relevant module's end.

How much does the Triple Award save vs booking standalones?+

The Triple Award is £1,427 for all three EAL Level 3 Awards. Booked separately: DS301 (£549) + SP203-1 (£549) + SP203-4 (£329) = £1,427 - same headline price as standalones. The benefit is timing and continuity - one continuous 5-day intake versus three separate scheduled bookings, with cross-pollination between the modules and a single deposit/booking.

Who is this course designed for?+

Working electricians and fire-safety installers moving into commercial fire and life-safety installation. Most attendees are 2365-qualified or equivalent practising electricians whose firms hold (or are applying for) BAFE registration. Some attendees are existing fire engineers formalising their EAL Level 3 status. The course is not for complete beginners - basic electrical knowledge (mains wiring, 230V AC, test instruments) is assumed.

What does the 5-day schedule look like?+

Day 1: Emergency Lighting (BS 5266-1 / BAFE SP203-4) - design, install, commission, test, certify. EAL exam at end of day. Days 2-3: Commercial Fire Alarms (BS 5839-1 / BAFE SP203-1) - categories L1-L5+M, false-alarm reduction, practical panel work. EAL exam end of day 3. Days 4-5: Domestic Fire Alarms (BS 5839-6 / BAFE DS301) - grades A-F, dwelling types, risk-based design, Grade D rigs. EAL exam end of day 5.

Do I get one qualification or three?+

Three separate EAL Level 3 Awards. On passing all modules you receive: EAL Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Maintenance of Emergency Lighting Systems; EAL Level 3 Award in Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Buildings (BS 5839-1); and EAL Level 3 Award in Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Dwellings (BS 5839-6). All three are nationally recognised and BAFE-scheme accepted.

How does this compare to the Fire Alarm Combined (without emergency lighting)?+

The Fire Alarm Combined (£1,098, 4 days) covers DS301 + SP203-1 only - fire alarms in both domestic and commercial premises. The Triple Award (£1,427, 5 days) adds SP203-4 emergency lighting on top. If your work includes emergency lighting - which most commercial fire engineers do - the Triple is the more complete qualification for an additional £329 / 1 day.
