1/7“Did this for our BAFE SP203-1 registration — passed both Awards first time. Tutor was an active fire engineer, not just reading from slides. The false-alarm section alone has saved us callouts already.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Domestic & Commercial Fire Alarm Course - Level 3 BAFE.
On passing you hold two EAL Level 3 Awards — Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Buildings (BS 5839-1, commercial) and Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Dwellings (BS 5839-6, domestic). These are the qualifications a BAFE-registered company needs to certify staff against SP203-1 (Version 8, 2023) for commercial Grade A installations, and DS301 for domestic Grade A–F systems. You become a competent person under BS 5839 for design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and verification.
BS 5839-1 is the British Standard for fire detection and alarm systems in non-domestic premises (offices, warehouses, schools, hospitals, retail, HMOs in scope). BS 5839-6 covers fire detection and alarm systems for dwellings (single-family homes, individual flats). They are separate standards with different categories, grades, and design rules — the Combined Course covers both in one programme.
BAFE is the third-party certification body trusted by insurers, regulators, and most clients in the UK fire industry. SP203-1 is the BAFE scheme for fire detection & alarm systems in commercial premises (BS 5839-1). DS301 is the BAFE scheme for domestic systems (BS 5839-6). To register your company under either scheme, your engineers need EAL Level 3 (or equivalent) Awards in the relevant subject — which is exactly what this course provides.
