What are the entry requirements for Level 3 2365?

You need to have completed the City & Guilds Level 2 2365 Diploma in Electrical Installations or an equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC Level 2 Electrical Installation, NVQ Level 2, prior learning recognised by City & Guilds). If you don't have Level 2, you can take it with us first or as part of the 2365 Package (Level 2 + Level 3 combined for £7,089).

Does Level 3 2365 alone qualify me as a 'fully qualified electrician'?

No — Level 3 2365 on its own is a classroom qualification. To be classed as a fully qualified Installation Electrician (and earn a JIB/ECS Gold Card) you also need 18th Edition (BS 7671), City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing, the NVQ Level 3 (2346) work-based portfolio, and AM2/AM2S end-point assessment. The Gold Card Package (£8,849) bundles all of these — buying them bundled saves money versus stacking them individually.

Can I progress to the NVQ after this?

Yes. Completing Level 3 2365 qualifies you to begin NVQ Level 3 (2346 for the JIB Installation route, or 2357 for the Electrotechnical route). The NVQ is a work-based portfolio assessment built up over on-site electrical work, signed off by a qualified assessor — typical completion time is 9–18 months alongside paid work.

What qualification will I receive?

On passing all units you receive the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) — qualification 2365. It is nationally recognised, on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (Ofqual), and accepted by all major UK competent-person schemes (NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, STROMA) and the JIB.

How is Level 3 assessed?

A combination of online theory exams (Fundamental Principles, Fault Diagnosis, Electrical Installations, Electrical Systems Design — Unit 305/625) plus written assignments and practical assessments (Fault Diagnosis practical, Electrical Installations practical, Systems Design project, Career Awareness). Pass marks range 50–70% depending on unit. The Systems Design exam (Unit 305) permits use of the IET On-Site Guide.

Is finance available?

Finance is currently only available on the fast-track 2365 routes. For the standard Level 3 course, speak to an advisor about booking options, bulk booking or employer-funded training.

How long does the course take?

Full-time delivery runs over 7 weeks at our Cheshunt centre (weekdays). Part-time delivery runs over 14 weeks for learners continuing in employment or with other commitments. Both deliver the same City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 qualification.

What is the difference between Level 3 and 18th Edition?

They are separate qualifications. The Level 3 2365 is a broad classroom diploma covering electrical science, design, fault diagnosis, and BS 7671 compliance over 7+ weeks. The 18th Edition (City & Guilds 2382-26) is a focused 3-day qualification on BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 — the current UK Wiring Regulations. You typically need both to be Gold-Card-eligible. We run both, and the Gold Card Package bundles them.

Do I need Level 3 if I already have AM2 or significant on-site experience?

Possibly not. If you have 5+ years of relevant on-site electrical experience and have already completed AM2, the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ Level 3 route may suit you better than re-doing classroom Level 3. Holding Level 3 2365 alone with limited on-site experience typically opens electrical improver and supervised installer roles at £26,000–£32,000. Once you complete the full Gold Card pathway (Level 3 + 18th Ed + 2391 + NVQ + AM2S), JIB-rated Installation Electricians in the UK typically earn £35,000–£48,000 employed or £55,000–£80,000+ self-employed depending on region.
