The online format worked perfectly. Studied the theory at home and just went in for the practical and written exam. Passed first time. The condition codes section was particularly well-explained.
Refresher for re-certification. Already held 2391-51 from a few years back. The £200 online theory was the right price point - I just needed the updated EICR materials before the practical. Recommended.
Left the office, joined the trade. Seven weeks in Cheshunt, first paid job the following Monday.

The £200 fee covers full online portal access to the 2391-52 learning materials (initial verification + periodic inspection theory) plus tutor email and phone support throughout your enrolment. The City & Guilds 2391-52 written exam fee and the in-person practical assessment fees are not included - both are booked and paid separately. Contact us for current exam and practical pricing.
The learning materials are 100% online and self-paced. However, the full 2391-52 qualification requires hands-on practical assessments (initial verification practical + periodic inspection practical) which must be sat in person at an approved centre - either our Cheshunt centre or any other City & Guilds 2391-approved centre. The online portion is theory revision; the practicals are the qualifying assessments.
Yes - a current City & Guilds 2382-26 (18th Edition, BS 7671:2018+A4:2026) certificate is required before you can enrol on any 2391 course. Inspection and testing builds directly on Wiring Regulations knowledge. If you do not hold 18th Edition, choose the full online route (£99) or the classroom course (£439, 3 days). Existing holders who only need Amendment 4 can use the £49 refresher.
Different products. The classroom 2391-52 (£1,099, 5 days at Cheshunt) is the full qualifying course - includes the practical assessments and the written exam, leading directly to the certificate. The online 2391-52 (£200, self-paced) is theory revision materials only - you still need to book and pay for the practicals + exam separately to actually earn the qualification. Online suits experienced inspectors revising for re-certification; classroom suits anyone earning the qualification for the first time.
The online materials cover all four EICR condition codes in depth: C1 (Danger present - immediate action required), C2 (Potentially dangerous - urgent remedial action), C3 (Improvement recommended - not dangerous but recommended upgrade), and FI (Further investigation required). Correct coding is the single most-disputed part of inspection work and a major focus of the syllabus.
Only after you complete the practicals and written exam. The online materials prepare you for the assessments; the qualification that legally enables EICR issuance is the full City & Guilds 2391-52 certificate awarded once you pass all components. Landlords in England need a 5-yearly EICR under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
Use self-paced study to move through the theory while keeping support and next-step guidance available.
