- Remote exam policy

Become eligible, then book
your official exam.

Your course access lasts 12 months. The official remote exam is separate from the unlimited final mock practice included in your course.

01

Complete the course

Finish every module and achieve at least 70% on the final mock before you become eligible for the official exam. Mock attempts are unlimited.

02

Request your sitting

Exams run on weekdays at 8:00am, 11:30am, 4:00pm (UK time). Request your preferred slot at least 7 working days in advance; all sittings are subject to availability.

03

Retakes and reset

After the initial official exam, you may take up to 3 retakes at £65 each. If the third retake is unsuccessful, your course resets and every module plus the 70% final mock must be completed again before another exam.

Your own latest BS 7671 book is required. Keep it with you while studying, taking the final mock and sitting the open-book remote exam. The current edition is BS 7671:2018+A4:2026; it is not included.

The official exam pass mark is 60%; the 70% final mock score is the LTS readiness requirement for exam eligibility.

City & Guilds remote-invigilation rules

These City & Guilds conditions apply in addition to the LTS eligibility, booking and retake policy above. You are responsible for meeting them on exam day.

  • Use a compatible Windows deviceUse a Windows PC or laptop with a keyboard and mouse, webcam, microphone, speakers and stable internet. Macs, Chromebooks, tablets and phones are not supported. Use the latest Chrome or Edge in Incognito or InPrivate mode and complete the official technology checks before exam day.
  • Remove prohibited softwareAI, writing-assistance and similar software must not be installed or running. Close other applications, browser tabs and notifications. A personal device is recommended because workplace security controls can prevent the invigilation platform from working.
  • Present matching photo IDHave an original, valid physical photo ID ready. Your forename and surname must match the exam booking, and you must allow the invigilator to verify your face and ID before the exam starts.
  • Prepare a private, clear roomSit alone in a quiet, private, well-lit and tidy room. Clear unauthorised items from the desk and surrounding area, switch off and disconnect extra screens, share your screen, and complete the requested 360-degree room and desk scan.
  • Check in early and remain in the roomJoin at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start; the exam room opens 30 minutes early. Arriving more than 20 minutes late cancels the sitting. Once the exam begins, do not leave the room and follow every invigilator instruction.
  • Consent to monitoring and recordingCity & Guilds remote exams use live invigilation and automated monitoring. Your webcam, microphone and screen are recorded during the session. A rule breach can lead to the exam being paused, ended or failed.
  • Follow the open-book rulesFor the 18th Edition exam, use only the original permitted hard-copy BS 7671 specified for your sitting. Photocopies and electronic copies are not allowed. Highlighting, page-reference tabs and short cross-references are permitted, but added pages, revision notes, formulae and procedures are not.

5.0 Rating18th Edition Wiring Regulations (C&G 2382-26) — Online

Passed first time. The online material covered everything I needed - studied evenings for six weeks, used the mocks, then booked the exam when I was ready.

5.0 Rating18th Edition Wiring Regulations (C&G 2382-26) — Online

Did this for NICEIC renewal. Couldn’t spare 3 days off work for the classroom version - the online portal let me chip through it on commutes. Sat the remotely invigilated exam online two weeks later. Same certificate.

What is included in the £99 fee?+

The £99 fee covers the complete online 18th Edition (City & Guilds 2382-26) learning route for 12 months from access activation, including the 24/7 AI tutor, HD video lessons, knowledge checks, smart mock practice, and tutor email and phone support. The official remote-invigilated examination is an additional £150; add it at checkout or purchase it later when you are ready.

How long do I have to complete the online course?+

You have 12 months of portal access from enrolment. After successful payment, we create your course access automatically and email a secure sign-in setup link. Most candidates complete the theory study in 4-8 weeks of part-time evening/weekend revision.

Do I get a copy of the BS 7671 book?+

No - you must own the latest BS 7671 book (currently BS 7671:2018+A4:2026) and keep it with you while completing the course, practising the final mock and sitting the open-book remote examination. The book is not included in the course price, so purchase your copy separately before you begin.

How is the online 18th Edition different from the classroom course?+

Both award the same City & Guilds 2382-26 certificate on passing the same exam. The classroom version (£439, 3 days at Cheshunt) includes live tutor walkthroughs, regulation-navigation drills, group Q&A, and the exam on the final day. The full online version provides 12 months of self-paced materials, Orange Book navigation drills and a 60-question, 120-minute mock exam simulator, with automatic enrolment after successful payment for £99; the remote-invigilated examination is an additional £150, available at checkout or later. Existing 18th Edition holders who only need Amendment 4 can choose the focused £49 refresher instead.

Is the online 18th Edition recognised by NICEIC and NAPIT?+

Yes - the qualification awarded is the same City & Guilds 2382-26 regardless of how you study. NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, and STROMA approved-contractor schemes accept the C&G 2382-26 certificate; they do not distinguish between online and classroom routes. The certificate itself does not mention 'online' or 'classroom'.

Can complete beginners take the online 18th Edition?+

Not recommended. The 18th Edition assumes basic electrical knowledge (Ohm's Law, AC/DC fundamentals, single-phase wiring). The AI tutor and LTS tutor support can help explain regulations, but the online route does not include scheduled live classroom teaching. Complete beginners should take Level 2 2365 first, or sit the in-person 3-day classroom version of 18th Edition.
