What is the Basic Electrical Course at LTS?

You learn basic electrical theory (voltage, current, resistance), safe use of electrical tools and multimeters, cable types and termination, safe isolation procedures, consumer units and circuit protection, and one-way/two-way switching - plus integrated CPD modules on Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, and Working at Heights. The course runs 8:30am-4:30pm at our Cheshunt centre - £899 with all tools, PPE, and materials included.

Do I need any experience or qualifications?

No. The Basic Electrical Course is built for complete beginners - school-leavers, career-changers, tradespeople adding electrical skills. No prior experience or formal qualifications are required. The course is designed as a one-week 'try before you commit' experience for people considering electrical as a career.

Do I need any tools or PPE?

Accepted Answer

No. We provide all tools, multimeters, materials, and PPE - just turn up ready to learn in workwear suitable for hands-on practical sessions. Bring your own lunch or use local Cheshunt cafes / supermarkets in walking distance.

What do I receive on completion?

Accepted Answer

An LTS Basic Electrical Certificate (EAL-aligned) and the three integrated CPD certificates: Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, and Working at Heights. The CPD certificates are recognised across construction and have real value to mate/improver applications even if you don't continue to Level 2.

How does this compare to the Level 2 2365 Diploma?

The Basic course is a 5-day taster with an LTS-issued certificate - it gives you a feel for electrical work, exposure to tools and methods, and lets you decide whether to commit to the full pathway. The Level 2 2365 Diploma is a 6-week (full-time) City & Guilds qualification - the industry-standard entry route to the trade. Most learners take Basic first if they're uncertain, or skip straight to Level 2 if committed. We credit the £899 Basic fee against the Gold Card Package if you continue with us.

Can I upgrade or progress after this course?

Yes. The typical progression is Basic → Level 2 2365 Diploma → Level 3 2365 Diploma → 18th Edition → 2391 I&T → NVQ Level 3 → AM2S → JIB/ECS Gold Card. We credit your £899 Basic fee against the Gold Card Package (£8,849) if you decide to continue. Many learners progress within 1-2 months of finishing the Basic course.

Can the £899 fee be employer-funded or bulk-booked?

Yes. We accept employer-billed bookings (we invoice the employer directly) and offer bulk discounts for 3+ delegates on the same intake. Many construction firms book Basic for new starters as a structured entry before the formal Level 2. Contact us for tailored quotes.

What is included in the CPD content?

Accepted Answer

Asbestos Awareness (legal context, identification, safe-work practices around asbestos-containing materials in older buildings), Manual Handling (HSE guidance on lifting, kinetic principles, risk assessment), and Working at Heights (Work at Height Regulations 2005, ladder use, scaffolding awareness). All three are CPD-certified and form part of the integrated 5-day programme.

How big are the classes and is there parking?

Maximum 10 learners per intake with multiple tutors for hands-on time. All training delivered at our Cheshunt centre - free on-site parking. 15 minutes from M25 J25, 30 minutes from central London via Liverpool Street.

Is this the same as 'basic electrician training' I see advertised online?

Different providers use the phrase differently. Our Basic Electrical Course is a 5-day in-person hands-on EAL-approved programme with real workshop time. Many online 'basic electrician training' offerings are theory-only video courses that don't produce any practical competence or certificate of value. If you want to actually try the trade and decide whether to commit to a career path, the in-person practical week is what matters.
