NVQ On-Site Assessment Policy

Purpose

This policy is designed to ensure efficient and effective on-site assessments for the NVQ Electrical Installation Certificate while minimizing excessive travel for assessors. The goal is to balance the needs of our candidates with the practical considerations of assessor availability and travel distance.

Scope

This policy applies to all NVQ Electrical Installation Certificate assessments that require on-site observation by an assessor.

Policy Statement

Assessment Scheduling

  • Assessments will be scheduled based on geographic proximity to the assessor’s base location.
  • Priority will be given to candidates within a 50-mile radius of the assessor’s base.

Travel Radius

  • Assessors will not be required to travel more than 50 miles one way for an on-site assessment.
  • Exceptions to this travel limit may be considered under special circumstances, subject to approval by the Assessment Coordinator.

Cluster Assessments

  • Wherever possible, assessments will be clustered geographically to allow multiple candidates to be assessed during a single trip.
  • Candidates located within the same region will be scheduled on the same day to maximize efficiency.

Remote Assessment Consideration

  • In cases where on-site assessments are impractical due to distance, remote assessment options will be explored.
  • Candidates may be required to provide video evidence or participate in a live video call to demonstrate their work.

Candidate Responsibility

  • Candidates will be informed of the travel policy at the time of registration.
  • Candidates outside the 50-mile radius may be required to travel to a designated location within the acceptable travel distance for their assessment.

Travel Reimbursement

  • Assessors traveling beyond the 50-mile radius (under approved exceptions) will be reimbursed for travel expenses as per the organisation’s travel reimbursement policy.

Approval Process for Exceptions

  • Any request for an exception to the travel policy must be submitted in writing to the Assessment Coordinator at least four weeks in advance of the assessment date.
  • The request must include justification for the exception and any supporting documentation.

Communication

  • Clear communication channels will be established between the assessor, candidates, and the Assessment Coordinator to ensure smooth scheduling and execution of assessments.
  • Candidates will receive confirmation of their assessment date, time, and location at least two weeks in advance.

Review and Adjustment

  • This policy will be reviewed annually and adjusted as necessary to reflect changes in operational needs and the geographic distribution of candidates.

Responsibilities

Assessors

  • Adhere to the travel policy and provide timely notification of any issues affecting their ability to conduct assessments.

Assessment Coordinator

  • Ensure compliance with the policy, approve exceptions, and coordinate the scheduling and communication process.

Candidates

  • Understand and comply with the travel policy, including any requirements to travel to designated assessment locations if necessary.
