2382-26 vs 2382-22: What the New 18th Edition Exam Means for You

City & Guilds 2382-26 is the current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification covering BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. It replaces 2382-22, but the official transition is more precise than saying both exams are freely available to every learner for six months.

Centres have had to use 2382-26 for new delivery since 16 April 2026. Registration for 2382-22 closed on 31 July 2026, and learners registered in time have until 15 October 2026 to take its final evolve test.

What Changed Between 2382-22 and 2382-26?

The 2382-26 qualification covers BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. In its public Amendment 4 summary, the IET highlights:

• a new chapter for stationary secondary batteries;
• new functional-earthing and functional-equipotential-bonding requirements for ICT;
• a new section for Power over Ethernet; and
• a major revision of Section 710 for medical locations, with a separate schedule of test results.

What Should You Do?

If You Already Hold a 2382-22 Certificate

Your certificate does not automatically expire because Amendment 4 has been published. You do, however, need knowledge that is current for the work you undertake.

Ask your employer, certification body, client or card scheme what evidence it expects. TESP confirms that holders of currently recognised 18th Edition qualifications do not have to take the replacement qualification solely because of Amendment 4. Identify any actual training gap before choosing further study.

If You Are Starting the 18th Edition Now

If You Are Already Registered for 2382-22

Confirm your registration status and assessment date with your training centre. City & Guilds gives learners registered in time until 15 October 2026 to take the final 2382-22 evolve test.

Completing 2382-22 within that official window and knowing when a project moves to Amendment 4 are separate questions. The IET says installers may work to either Amendment 3 or Amendment 4 during the BS 7671 transition through 15 October 2026.

• Check your qualification code — identify whether you already hold 2382-22 or an earlier award.
• Confirm any open registration — if you are on 2382-22, get the final assessment date in writing from the centre.
• Ask what evidence is required — check with the employer, certification body or card scheme that matters to your role.
• Use the current standard — study BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 when preparing for 2382-26.
• Book the right route — take the full current qualification only when that matches the identified requirement.
