Course Content & Learning Outcomes
This course covers both theoretical knowledge and practical application of initial verification processes. Upon completion, you will be able to:
1. Understand Inspection & Testing Requirements
- Learn the regulations governing initial verification.
- Identify statutory and non-statutory documents required for compliance.
- Understand the safety procedures necessary during testing and inspection.
2. Conduct Initial Inspection of Electrical Installations
- Identify inspection criteria as per BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3.
- Verify compliance of electrical installations with industry standards.
3. Perform Electrical Testing Procedures
- Set up, use, and maintain electrical test instruments.
- Conduct mandatory tests including continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance, and RCD testing.
- Interpret test results and complete appropriate electrical installation certificates.
4. Apply Safe Isolation & Risk Management Practices
- Implement safe isolation procedures to prevent electrical hazards.
- Understand the requirements of Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with electrical testing.
Assessment & Certification
To successfully achieve the City & Guilds 2391-50 qualification, candidates must pass:
- Online Multiple-Choice Exam (90 minutes) โ Open-book exam testing theoretical knowledge.
- Practical Assessment โ Hands-on demonstration of electrical inspection and testing on simulated installations.
Upon passing, you will receive the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Initial Verification of Electrical Installations (2391-50), recognised across the industry.

While there are no strict entry requirements, candidates should:
- Have experience in electrical installation work.
- Be familiar with the current IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition).
- Possess a basic understanding of electrical science and principles.
