At Learn Trade Skills, we’ve always believed that the best way to prepare students for the electrical industry is to put real tools in their hands and give them real challenges to solve. That’s exactly what we set out to do with our latest project—a full 16kWh solar panel and 16kWh battery system, installed not by contractors, but by our own electrical trainees.

Under the careful guidance of experienced professionals, and with support from our long-time industry partner WireNow, our students worked step by step to install a fully operational off-grid energy system at our training centre. This wasn’t a simulation or mock-up—it was a live install, and the result now powers our facility independently from the national grid.

More than just a learning exercise, this project represents what vocational education should be: hands-on, purposeful, and future-facing. It also stands as a small but meaningful contribution to the UK’s push toward a more sustainable, net-zero future—built entirely by the next generation of skilled electricians.
